Onana's nightmare has Man United on Champions League brink

Manchester United's Champions League hopes were dealt a major blow as goalkeeper Andre Onana's two howlers gifted Galatasaray a 3-3 draw on Wednesday night.

In a match where United had led twice, Onana's first mistake came in the 54th minute when he was rooted to the spot as a free-kick from Hakim Ziyech slipped past him.

With United seemingly heading for victory, Onana's second blunder in the 79th minute was even more inexplicable. He inexplicably punched a Ziyech cross into his own net to level the scores.

Kerem Aktürkoğlu then wrapped up the points for Galatasaray in the 83rd minute with a stunning strike, leaving United on the brink of elimination from the competition.

The Red Devils' defensive frailties were once again exposed, but Onana's errors were inexcusable. He has now made three mistakes in the Champions League this season, which is unacceptable for a goalkeeper of his price tag.

\Manager Erik ten Hag will be left to rue his decision to start Onana, who had already made a string of mistakes in recent weeks.

United now need to beat Young Boys in their final group game to guarantee their place in the knockout stages, while a defeat could see them miss out on qualification altogether.

It is another disappointing setback for a United side that is struggling in all competitions this season. They are currently sixth in the Premier League, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea.

Onana's nightmare performance has only added to the pressure on Ten Hag, who is under increasing scrutiny after a difficult start to his tenure at Old Trafford.
