Draymond Green ejected again for flagrant 2 on Jusuf Nurkic

Draymond Green, the outspoken forward for the Golden State Warriors, was once again ejected from a game on Tuesday night, December 13, 2023. This time, he received a flagrant 2 foul for hitting Jusuf Nurkic, the center for the Phoenix Suns, in the head.

The incident occurred with 8:23 remaining in the third quarter of the Warriors' 119-116 loss to the Suns.
Green and Nurkic were battling for position on an inbounds play, and Green's arm appeared to make contact with Nurkic's head. After a video review, officials deemed the foul a flagrant 2, which resulted in Green's ejection.

This was Green's third ejection of the season and his fourth flagrant foul. He was previously ejected for picking up two technical fouls against the Cleveland Cavaliers on November 11 and for putting Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves in a headlock on November 14.

Green's history of ejections and flagrant fouls has led to speculation that he might face a suspension from the NBA. The league office is expected to review the incident and make a decision in the coming days.

Here are some of the reactions to Green's ejection:

  • Warriors coach Steve Kerr: "I haven't seen the replay yet, so I can't comment on the specific play. But Draymond needs to be smarter than that. We can't afford to have him ejected from games, especially close games like this."
  • Suns coach Monty Williams: "I thought it was the right call. It was a dangerous play, and Green could have seriously hurt Nurkic."
  • NBA analyst Charles Barkley: "Draymond Green is walking a tightrope right now. He's a great player, but he needs to learn to control his emotions. If he keeps getting ejected, he's going to cost his team a lot of games."

It remains to be seen what disciplinary action the NBA will take against Green, but one thing is for sure: his ejection was a major turning point in the Warriors' loss to the Suns.
