Kentucky coach Mark Stoops decides to stay with Wildcats after emerging as Texas A&M's top target

“I know there’s been much speculation about me and my job situation the last couple of days,” Stoops wrote. “It’s true I was contacted about a potential opportunity this weekend, but after celebrating a big win against our rivals with players I love like family, I knew in my heart I couldn’t leave the University of Kentucky right now.”
Stoops was reportedly Texas A&M’s top target to replace Jimbo Fisher, who was fired in October. However, Stoops ultimately decided to stay at Kentucky, where he has been the head coach since 2013.
“I have a great job at a place I love, and I get to work with the best administration and greatest fan base in college football right where I’m at,” Stoops wrote. “I’m excited to say I’m a Wildcat!”
Stoops’ decision to stay at Kentucky is a major blow to Texas A&M, which is now back to square one in its search for a new head coach. The Aggies have been linked to a number of other candidates, including Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy and Penn State’s James Franklin
