6 dead as tornadoes tear across Tennessee

At least six people were killed and dozens injured on December 9, 2023, as tornadoes tore through central Tennessee. The strongest tornadoes touched down near Clarksville, a city about 45 miles northwest of Nashville.


The National Weather Service confirmed that at least one tornado touched down in Montgomery County, where Clarksville is located. Emergency responders were still searching for survivors on December 10, 2023.

The storms also caused widespread damage to homes and businesses. Thousands of people were left without power.


The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency has activated its Emergency Operations Center and is working with local officials to provide assistance to those affected by the storms.
