Devin Haney shuts out Regis Prograis, now 2-division champion

Devin Haney delivered a masterful performance on Saturday night, December 9th, 2023, to become a two-division champion by defeating former champion Regis Prograis via a dominant unanimous decision (120-107, 120-107, 120-107) at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

With this victory, Haney not only captured Prograis' WBC junior welterweight title but also solidified his position as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

Haney's Domination:

From the opening bell, Haney established control of the fight with his superior boxing skills and sharp jab. He landed precise punches throughout the night, keeping Prograis at bay and frustrating him.

Prograis struggled to find his rhythm and landed only a handful of clean punches throughout the fight. His right eye began to swell shut in the third round after a sharp right hand from Haney, further hindering his ability to see and react.

A Stellar Performance:

Haney's performance was a testament to his dedication and hard work. He stuck to his game plan and executed it flawlessly, showcasing his boxing IQ and ring generalship.

"I did everything that I said I was gonna do," said Haney after the fight. "Went in there and I handicapped him. We knew that he was gonna come in with a big left hand. ... We capitalized on his habit of leaning in. ... I hit him with big shots."

What's Next for Haney?

With the win over Prograis, Haney has opened up several intriguing possibilities for the future. He could choose to unify the junior welterweight division by facing the other champions, such as Teofimo Lopez or Josh Taylor. Or, he could move up in weight and challenge himself against the top fighters in the welterweight division.

Whatever path he chooses, one thing is certain: Devin Haney is a force to be reckoned with in the boxing world. He is a young, talented fighter with a bright future ahead of him.
