Storm Elin: Met Éireann issues status orange and yellow wind warnings 

Storm Elin brought strong winds to Ireland on Saturday, with Met Éireann issuing three status orange wind warnings and a number of status yellow warnings.


The orange warnings were in place for:

  • Donegal (2pm to 6pm)
  • Dublin (12pm to 3pm)
  • Wicklow (11am to 5pm)

The yellow warnings were in place for:

  • Clare, Tipperary and Connacht (until 6pm)
  • Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan (from 10am to 8pm)

Met Éireann advised people to be aware of the dangers of strong winds and to take precautions to stay safe. These precautions included:

  • Staying indoors as much as possible
  • Locking doors and windows
  • Securing outdoor furniture and objects
  • Avoiding travel if possible
  • Being aware of the danger of falling trees and power lines
The storm caused some travel disruptions, with some flights and ferries cancelled. There were also reports of power outages in some areas.

Met Éireann said that the storm would move eastwards across the country on Saturday evening and into Sunday
