Air Force instructor pilot killed when ejection seat activated on the ground

That's a very sad story. Here's what I found based on recent news:


  • This happened just a couple days ago on May 13th, 2024 at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas.
  • The pilot was Captain John Robertson, an instructor pilot with the 80th Operations Support Squadron.
  • He was on the ground in a T-6A Texan II training aircraft when the ejection seat malfunctioned and activated.
  • Captain Robertson was taken to the hospital but unfortunately died from his injuries on May 14th.
  • The Air Force is currently investigating the cause of the accident.

This is a tragic loss for Captain Robertson's family, friends, and the Air Force.
